The Sugar Industry Tribunal has announced that the Lautoka mill of the Fiji Sugar Corporation will conclude its crushing operations for the 2024 season on Monday, October 7. Tribunal member Semi Leweniqila made this declaration following discussions with the CEOs of the Sugar Cane Growers Council and the Fiji Sugar Corporation.
In his order, Mr. Leweniqila urged all growers and harvesting teams in the Lautoka Mill region to make every effort to harvest and deliver their cane to the mill by Sunday, October 6. The Lautoka mill commenced its crushing activities on June 5. No reasons were provided for the early cessation of crushing this season, in contrast to last year when operations continued until November 19.
