Lautoka Football Club is preparing for the highly anticipated FMF Inter District Championship (IDC), scheduled for October 15-20. After a successful season that saw them win both the Fiji FACT and the Battle of the Giants tournaments, the Blues are determined to end the year on a high note.
Club president Shalendra Prasad announced that the team is striving to re-sign former Lautoka goalkeeper Beniamino Mateinaqara for the competition, although no confirmation has been made yet. “Beniamino is the only player we are trying to get because he is a former Lautoka player, but we can’t confirm anything,” Prasad remarked.
This move comes as the club seeks to strengthen its squad in preparation for the challenging competition ahead. When inquired about the availability of James Hoyt, Prasad simply stated, “Nothing on Hoyt.” The team’s focus remains on refining their current lineup before any final decisions are announced.
Prasad indicated that the final roster of 22 players will be revealed on Monday. “We will wait for our final 22 squad to be released, then I can make further comment,” he explained.
As the hosts of this year’s IDC, Lautoka faces significant expectations from their supporters, who are eager to see if the team can maintain their impressive performance. With two major trophies already secured, the pressing question is whether Lautoka can achieve a treble by adding the IDC to their collection of accolades.
All attention will be on the Blues as they gear up for one of the year’s most significant football events.
