Lautoka fought hard to secure a 3-1 victory over Navua in the opening match of the 2024 FMF Inter District Championship at Churchill Park on the evening of day one.

Lautoka had a strong start, with Saula Waqa and Sitiveni Cavuilagi scoring quickly, leading 2-0 at halftime. The difficult ground conditions posed challenges for both teams.

Navua’s hopes were revived when Jared Rongolisua’s long cross from 40 yards was ruled a goal by the assistant referee, despite Lautoka goalkeeper Benaminio Matainaqara appearing to have control of the ball.

The situation worsened for Lautoka when Sakaraia Naisua was shown a red card for a second booking, leaving the team with only ten players.

Navua pressed for an equalizer, but Lautoka’s Sairusi Nalaubu secured the win with a solo goal during injury time.

Navua will face Suva in their next match at 2 PM tomorrow, while Lautoka will take on Labasa at 8 PM.
