Fiji’s Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has announced plans for a Cabinet reshuffle early next year, attributing the decision to the late-night arrival of important files. He highlighted the excessive workload he faces, stating that he often finds himself reviewing documents during sleepless nights, which he believes is not only unfair to him personally but also to his responsibilities towards the people and government workers.
At 76 years old, Rabuka expressed concern about the toll this burden takes on him and emphasized the need to delegate tasks to enhance efficiency and leadership. He stated, “It will be fair to myself, to the people and do a good job,” indicating that a reshuffle could lead to more effective governance.
In particular, he pointed out that he would likely assign the Police and Immigration portfolio to another minister to alleviate some of his responsibilities. Currently, the Home Affairs portfolio is managed by Pio Tikoduadua, who also oversees military operations.
Rabuka did not specify when the reshuffle would take effect, leaving room for speculations about future developments in Fiji’s government structure.
