The i-Taukei Land Trust Board (TLTB) is urging its tenants to begin settling any outstanding rental arrears in line with the terms of their leases. The TLTB emphasized that a 30-day grace period for tenants, which expires on November 30, has already been granted.
To facilitate this process, TLTB’s Estates Teams from all regional and sub-regional offices—including locations such as Suva, Sigatoka, Nadi, and Lautoka—will conduct follow-up visits to tenants in arrears to evaluate the actions taken towards resolving their outstanding payments. TLTB has previously issued notices and reminders about overdue payments, highlighting the importance of compliance to maintain the validity of lease agreements.
In a supportive initiative, TLTB has engaged with commercial banks to offer financial assistance options to tenants struggling with their dues. The Board stressed the importance of tenant cooperation in ensuring that lease payments are timely distributed to landowners, who rely on this income for their livelihoods.
The grace period ending on November 30 serves as a final reminder, after which TLTB may consider enforcement actions, potentially including land repossession. Tenants are strongly encouraged to utilize this period to clear their arrears and avert any negative repercussions.
TLTB is calling for all tenants to demonstrate genuine commitment in fulfilling their lease obligations, asserting that landowners should not be deprived of their rightful revenue.
This proactive approach by TLTB is commendable, as it not only addresses financial responsibilities but also supports tenants with potential financial solutions, fostering a spirit of cooperation and understanding.
