The Defence Club is set to host the highly anticipated Cardos-sponsored Ladies 501 Singles competition at the Fiji Club tomorrow. Edward Roxburgh, president of the Suva Darts Association, announced that this event marks the return of Ladies tournaments after a hiatus of over five years, drawing in 16 participants with varying levels of experience.
The competition will be structured into four pools, each comprising four players. Roxburgh highlighted that the top seeds include well-known competitors Mereoni Naikanitoba and Mable Maino from Papua New Guinea. The winner of the tournament will receive a prize of $400 along with a trophy, while additional awards will be given to the runner-up, semi-finalists, and pool winners.
There is a palpable excitement as the tournament also seeks to identify the most promising new player among the participants. Roxburgh emphasized that this competition not only serves as a competitive platform but is also vital for the selection of Team Fiji.
The team selected will have the prestigious opportunity to represent Fiji at the upcoming fourth South Pacific Darts Championships, which will be organized by the Fiji Darts Association in January 2025. Additionally, the Fintel Open Teams League is contributing to the darting enthusiasm, taking place every Monday and Thursday evenings at the Fiji Club.
With playoffs approaching in the coming weeks, the darts scene in Fiji is set to be both action-packed and engaging.
