The Defence Club is set to host the eagerly awaited Cardos-sponsored Ladies 501 Singles competition at the Fiji Club tomorrow. This event marks a significant return for Ladies tournaments after more than five years, drawing a total of 16 participants with varying levels of experience.
According to Edward Roxburgh, the president of the Suva Darts Association, the competition will be structured into four pools, each containing four players.
Top seeds of the tournament include well-known players Mereoni Naikanitoba and Mable Maino from Papua New Guinea. The tournament winner will receive $400 and a trophy, with additional prizes for the runner-up, semi-finalists, and pool winners.
There is also excitement surrounding the search for the most promising new player participating in the event. Roxburgh mentioned that this tournament serves as a vital platform not only for competition but also for the selection of Team Fiji.
The selected team will go on to represent Fiji at the fourth South Pacific Darts Championships scheduled for January 2025, which will be hosted by the Fiji Darts Association.
In addition to this event, the Fintel Open Teams League continues to stimulate the local darts community, with matches held every Monday and Thursday evenings at the Fiji Club. With playoffs approaching in the coming weeks, the darts scene in Fiji is set to be dynamic and engaging.
