The development of the Vualiku Hotel is set to alleviate the room shortage in Labasa, according to Minister for Trade, Manoa Kamikamica. The need for more accommodations became particularly evident during the Fiji Day national celebrations at Subrail Park, where some civil servants were required to share rooms.
Mr. Kamikamica emphasized that this hotel project is a significant step towards establishing Labasa as a center for tourism, hospitality, and overall economic development. The initiative is a $10 million investment from Vcorp Limited, led by directors Vinesh and Rachel Dayal, in collaboration with the Matasawa tribe. This long-awaited project is now moving forward with approved plans.
The hotel will comprise a two-story building housing 40 rooms, along with a swimming pool, restaurant, and various recreational activities. Additionally, it will feature a 500 square-meter conference facility aimed at attracting national conferences to the northern region of Fiji.
This initiative is more than just a business; it fosters iTaukei empowerment, supporting the main goals of the Dayals and the Labasa Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s development efforts. Mr. Kamikamica noted that the project redefines partnerships between landowners and businesses, generating both direct and indirect benefits for the community.
The hotel is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2025, bringing new opportunities for job creation, tourism growth, and local business development in Labasa.
In summary, the Vualiku Hotel project promises to not only solve current accommodation shortages but also to uplift the local economy and empower the community while celebrating the unique cultural heritage of the region. As it progresses, the project embodies hope and a collective vision for a thriving future for Labasa.
