Labasa’s decisive penalty taker in the 2024 FMF Inter District Championship (IDC), Christopher Wasasala, expressed his confidence in scoring during the final against Navua. The 29-year-old military personnel shared with FijiLive that he did not anticipate the match would go to penalties, but he decided to take the final kick when the moment arose.

After missing a penalty in the semifinal, Wasasala felt compelled to redeem himself in the final. “I was sure to make amends in the final and prove critics wrong,” he remarked with a smile. He consistently assured his teammates that he would handle the last penalty, exuding confidence that he could secure the title for Labasa.

When it came time to take the kick, Wasasala stated that he said a quick prayer and looked skyward for guidance. The moment the ball found the net was unforgettable for him, calling it a magical experience and a significant highlight of his career with the Labasa team.

Wasasala confirmed his intention to continue playing for the Babasiga Lions this upcoming season, hoping to mentor emerging strikers. He will now shift his focus to the Sukuna Bowl challenge next month in Suva, where he will represent the RFMF soccer team against the Fiji Police Force.
