Fiji Airports has entered into an $8.6 million contract with Pacific Building Solutions Group to undertake construction at the Labasa Terminal. This selection was made following a comprehensive tendering process.
This new initiative comes on the heels of a $10 million investment made earlier this year to upgrade pavements at five outer airports, including Labasa.
The plans for the Labasa Terminal include building a temporary terminal, demolishing the existing structure, and constructing a new permanent terminal featuring separate areas for arrivals and departures. Construction of the temporary terminal is set to commence in the first week of October, with completion expected by January 2025. Work on the main terminal is scheduled to begin in January 2025 and is anticipated to conclude by June 2026.
Fiji Airports is dedicated to minimizing disruptions throughout the project and ensuring that stakeholders are kept well-informed. Company Chief Executive Mesake Nawari stated that formal communications have been sent to Fiji Link, Northern Air, police, taxi operators, and the shop operator at Labasa Airport regarding the project and its timelines.
This development aims to enhance the travel experience for domestic passengers and accommodate the increasing number of travelers.
