The Vodafone Fiji Bati team is gearing up to take on the Papua New Guinea Kumuls in the Pacific Nations Cup match, with the Kumuls looking to avenge their loss from the previous year. In an unexpected turn of events last year, the Bati triumphed over the Kumuls with a decisive 43-16 victory on their home ground.
Fiji Bati Head Coach Wise Kativerata is fully aware of the Kumuls’ motivation for revenge and is anticipating a challenging match. He highlighted the necessity for his team to remain focused, emphasizing that the priority is the Fiji Bati itself.
Kativerata noted that the squad boasts a blend of seasoned players and newcomers, creating a balanced lineup for the upcoming competition. He has been communicating with the experienced players as the team prepares, acknowledging the determination of the PNG side to win.
He praised PNG coach Jason for rallying support for the team and their aims to enhance their position within the National Rugby League (NRL). Kativerata views this as a beneficial step for the Pacific region and rugby league overall.
“PNG coach Jason has made it clear that they need this win to progress to the next level, especially with the support from the Australian government for their National Rugby League bid. This is a positive move for both PNG and rugby league as a whole, and I am proud of their goals,” said Kativerata.
The Fiji Bati is set to compete against the PNG Kumuls on the 19th of this month at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.
