Amit Kumar from Taveuni weighed in at 76.3 kg for the South Pacific Boxing Promotion (SPBP) event, set to take place today at Nair Dias. He expressed his determination to perform well in his match.

His opponent, Mikaele Marisi from the Lautoka Happy Gloves boxing club, registered a weight of 75.2 kg during the weigh-in. Kumar, who last competed in 2004, is making a comeback after two decades and feels prepared for the 4×3 event.

“I have been training for a month now, and my body feels great. I will give it my all,” Kumar said.

Mohammed Shameem, director of the South Pacific Boxing Promotion, noted this event provides local boxers with a chance to showcase their skills. He mentioned the inclusion of three IBO sanctioned fights, emphasizing that such an event is unprecedented in Fiji, and underlined the organization’s commitment to supporting local talent. If successful, he plans to organize a larger event in May next year.

Additional matches scheduled for the evening include Jnr Abhay Chand against Vitori Cabalevu in a 6×3 contest, while Apisai Naciqa will face Marika Kavika, Manoa Tuiyaro will compete against Ezra Volavola, and Amo Wati will challenge Maureen Neumia in the sole 4×2 female bout.
