Amit Kumar, hailing from Taveuni, weighed in at 76.3 kg yesterday at Nair Dias for the South Pacific Boxing Promotion (SPBP) event scheduled for today. He expressed his commitment to giving his best performance during the match.

His opponent, Mikaele Marisi from the Lautoka Happy Gloves boxing club, recorded a weight of 75.2 kg during the weigh-in.

Kumar, who hasn’t fought since 2004, is making a comeback after two decades and feels prepared for the 4×3 event. “I’ve been training for a month and my body feels great, and I will give my best shot,” he stated.

Mohammed Shameem, director of the South Pacific Boxing Promotion, emphasized that this event presents a significant opportunity for local boxers to showcase their talent. “We have arranged three IBO sanctioned fights, which is unprecedented in Fiji, and we aim to continue supporting local talent,” he remarked.

If the event goes smoothly, Shameem plans to organize a larger event in May next year.

Other bouts scheduled for the night include Jnr Abhay Chand against Vitori Cabalevu in a 6×3 contest, Apisai Naciqa versus Marika Kavika, Manoa Tuiyaro against Ezra Volavola, and Amo Wati facing Maureen Neumia in the sole 4×2 female bout.
