Northern New City Tourism Development Pte Limited is launching an extensive tourism development project in Korovatu, Labasa, with a budget of several million dollars. The project site is conveniently located near the popular Korovatu picnic area, offering stunning views of Mali Island and Malau. On Thursday, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Communications, Manoa Kamikamica, visited the site to learn more about the plans.

Ma Xianlin, the managing director of the development company and a tourism developer from China, initially visited Fiji as a tourist in 2018 before purchasing the 151-acre land in 2022. He expressed gratitude to Investment Fiji for their assistance throughout the process. “We have invested approximately $5 million in the early stages, which includes upgrading the site. Our plans include constructing a hotel, resort, guest house, cantilever swimming pool, a mini cable car, mountain-top steps, and various other tourism-related facilities to enhance visitor engagement,” said Mr. Xianlin. The development will unfold over five years, executed in phases.

Mr. Kamikamica praised the project’s early progress and highlighted its exceptional location. “The elevated site offers breathtaking views for both tourists and locals,” he commented, expressing excitement about the potential for the people of the North to experience a new lifestyle centered around tourism activities. He encouraged Mr. Xianlin to seek support from the government and his ministry as needed.

This substantial investment is expected to significantly boost the local economy, create jobs, and enhance the tourism experience in Vanua Levu. The project showcases a forward-thinking approach to tourism development that could bring new opportunities to the region.

In summary, this project not only promises to diversify the tourism offerings in Fiji but also has the potential to uplift the local community, paving the way for economic growth and enhanced visitor experiences.
