The Wallabies are energized as Marika Koroibete returns to the Test team. There were speculations that the Fijian winger might retire after the World Cup. However, those rumors were dispelled when coach Joe Schmidt included him in the initial Rugby Championship squad for the upcoming matches against the Springboks, reclaiming the iconic number 11 jersey.

Koroibete’s presence on the field is significant, and his importance off the field is echoed by teammates like Nic White. “He’s special mate. He’s one of a kind, Marika,” White stated. “He’s made of granite; when he steps onto the field, he gives everything. He excels in kick chases, contact situations, and showcases incredible effort throughout.”

White continued to highlight Koroibete’s leadership qualities, noting, “He speaks through his actions, and when he does choose to speak, everyone listens. He has that presence; you often find yourself seeking his approval on matters off the field.”

Coach Schmidt recognized Koroibete’s impact when he named him as the only overseas player for the Tests. “Marika adds a positive energy around the team,” Schmidt remarked. “He has a good understanding of the game and knows when to make his mark. In past experiences coaching against him, I’ve found him to be quite challenging.”

Following a disappointing performance in the aerial contest in their last match, Schmidt is optimistic about Koroibete’s influence on the field. He expressed concerns over their aerial game, mentioning, “We didn’t excel in that area last week. They kicked seven contestables and regained four, while we didn’t manage to secure any.”

The Wallabies are set to face the Springboks in Perth at 7:45 PM tonight.
