Koro High School held its inaugural Cadet Pass Out Parade on Friday, marking fifty-four years since the school’s founding. The event, reviewed by Acting Commissioner of Police Juki Fong Chew, was a significant occasion for the local community, which came together to witness this historic milestone that aims to lay a strong foundation for students in the years ahead.

Chew expressed that while typically the reviewing officer is the Chief Guest, he chose to honor the cadets, their families, the community, and teachers instead. “You are our special guests, as you have opened the doors of the Fiji Police Force to work alongside you, with the shared goal of empowering Koro High students through this Cadet training,” he stated.

During his address, Chew touched upon recent issues related to youth involvement in criminal activities, imparting advice on the importance of discipline. He emphasized that while statistics can highlight issues, they do not effect change; it is ultimately self-discipline that determines whether one will engage in criminal behavior. “Every decision impacts your future; the choices, whether right or wrong, reflect your level of self-discipline and attitude,” he noted.

Addressing the students who may have faced disciplinary actions, Chew urged them to reconsider their paths. “If you’ve had incidents with the principal or teachers, it’s not too late to change. Learn from your mistakes, grow from them, and cultivate your mind to make the right decisions for a secure future.”

Chew also appealed to parents, guardians, and community members, reminding them of the significance of their roles in children’s lives. “Our children are our greatest achievement and investment. As a father, I urge you to prioritize their safety and well-being. Cherish the moments with them; they will eventually move on, and it is crucial to persist in caring, guiding, and counseling them,” he said.

He concluded with a reminder that while the future is uncertain, we must strive to make today’s environment safe for our children, allowing them to reach their full potential.
