Fiji Men’s National 7s head coach Osea Kolinisau has expressed his pride in Ponipate Loganimasi for joining the Fijian Drua team. Kolinisau emphasizes the significance of player progression and encouraging athletes to seize opportunities when they arise.
Loganimasi, who is recognized for his speed on the field, is set to join his fellow Paris Olympics teammates Iosefo Masi and Selestino Ravutaumada in the Drua Men’s squad for the upcoming 2025 Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific season. He made an impressive debut for the national 15s team by scoring two tries in the Pacific Nations Cup final against Japan.
Stepping up for the Flying Fijians after Ravutaumada’s injury in the tournament’s opening round, Loganimasi’s performance has caught the attention of his coach. Kolinisau expressed positive sentiments regarding Loganimasi’s advancement, stating that he hopes all his players can similarly transition from the 7s format to fifteens rugby.
“I’m happy with Loganimasi joining the Drua; that’s what we want, progression, coming from 7s to play in fifteens,” Kolinisau remarked. He pointed out that moving to the fifteens game can be advantageous for players in terms of skill development and financial prospects.
“This is great progress because obviously that’s where the money is, so I’m happy for Poni and wish him all the best in his season with the Drua and his future endeavors.”
