Kitti-Talei Darlene Drodrolagi, a 27-year-old graduate from the University of the South Pacific (USP), embodies the belief that a second chance at education can transform lives. Overcoming various obstacles, she successfully completed her Bachelor of Commerce degree despite facing several challenges along the way.
Originally from Lautoka, Kitti’s educational journey started at Drasa Avenue Primary School, which she credits for fostering her interests. She continued her studies at Tilak High School in Lautoka, where she admits distractions affected her performance. After struggling during Year 13, Kitti enrolled at Fiji Agape Mission School to repeat the year, demonstrating her resilience rather than feeling defeated by the setback.
In 2019, she began her degree at USP’s regional campus in Lautoka, driven by her dream of higher education. With her mother employed at USP, Kitti was able to take advantage of its resources, while her father, living in Papua New Guinea, provided consistent support from afar.
Reflecting on her challenges, Kitti faced the difficulties of online learning and adjusted to a new curriculum without the benefits of in-person classes. However, she remained focused and proactive, managing her coursework through emails and self-discipline.
With three years of hard work behind her, Kitti is now ready to enter the job market and address Fiji’s human resource needs, as she awaits responses to several job applications. She credits her success to her faith, family support, and determination, offering encouragement to current students: “Even if you feel like giving up, just keep going!”
