Kikau Gears Up for Physical Showdown Against PNG Kumuls

Viliame Kikau, a key player for the Vodafone Fiji Bati, is eager to showcase their skills in the upcoming match against Papua New Guinea (PNG) on Saturday night. The 29-year-old forward described the physical nature of the PNG Kumuls as akin to being struck by a ton of bricks, stating that they are always a formidable opponent, making the game a significant challenge.

With the support of the home crowd, Kikau is hopeful that the Bati will deliver an impressive performance for their fans. He emphasized the intensity of the game, noting that PNG brings a tough and relentless style, maintaining pressure from the start to the finish.

Having missed last year’s Pacific Bowl Championship to prepare for the 2024 NRL season with the Bulldogs, Kikau has taken on a leadership role during training sessions at Albert Park, offering guidance to younger players. Reflecting on his own journey, he recalled starting as a shy player who looked up to veterans for support and communication.

Kikau is dedicated to helping his teammates gain confidence, particularly the younger players like Jordan Miller and Jethro Rinakama, who are on the cusp of debuting in the match. He acknowledged that Fijian children often take time to open up but is committed to assisting them and ensuring they learn valuable lessons throughout the training camp.

As the team prepares for the game, Kikau’s focus remains on fostering teamwork and readiness for the challenge ahead.
