Local Government Minister Maciu Nalumisa, alongside Permanent Secretary Seema Sharma and Director of Town & Country Planning Mohammed Ziar, visited the Keyasi New Town Development site on January 15. During the visit, the Minister received updates from the project’s consultant and contractor regarding the civil works’ progress.

Despite facing challenges due to recent heavy rainfall, the team reported significant advancements, with bulk earthworks and the installation of essential services like stormwater drainage, sewer systems, and fire hydrants along the proposed main access road nearing completion.

Minister Nalumisa emphasized the project’s importance to the residents of Nadroga/Navosa and urged the team to ensure the civil works are completed on time. The Keyasi New Town Development is a comprehensive project that will feature 27 commercial lots, 4 industrial lots, and 3 open space lots, along with civic facilities including a market, a bus stand, a civic center, a service station, and designated areas for the National Fire Authority, wastewater treatment, and an electricity substation.

This development is part of the broader Keiyasi Town Development Project, which is on track with Phase 1 expected to conclude by October 2025, backed by a $10.4 million investment. This initiative aims to enhance local infrastructure and services, emphasizing regional development and improved access to amenities.

Overall, the successful implementation of the Keyasi New Town Development will not only uplift the local community but is also anticipated to provide economic benefits and stimulate growth in the surrounding areas.

The commitment to completing this project amidst challenges reflects a hopeful outlook for the future of Nadroga/Navosa, demonstrating the government’s dedication to bringing essential services closer to communities.
