The Kavanagasau Sanatan Dharm Kindergarten, valued at $26,000, has been inaugurated as a new center for early learning and play for children in Kavanagasau and its neighboring areas. This state-of-the-art facility, funded by a generous donation from the Tappoo Group of Companies, was officially opened earlier this month and is situated approximately 18 kilometers from Sigatoka Town. It aims to enhance the school enrollment, which includes primary education from Years One to Eight and secondary education from Years Nine to Thirteen.
Jitendra Kumar, the head of the school, expressed his gratitude to the Tappoo Group during the opening ceremony. He emphasized the significance of the playcenter in nurturing the next generation, stating that education extends beyond traditional classrooms to include spaces that foster creativity and exploration. “The grand opening of this Early Childhood Education playcenter marks a significant development in promoting quality education within the Nadroga Navosa education district,” Mr. Kumar remarked.
The new playcenter is dedicated to the memory of Tappoo Kanji, an early student at the school and a key figure in the Tappoo family’s legacy. Kanti Tappoo, chairperson of the Tappoo Group, shared emotional reflections on his family’s long-standing connection with the school, which dates back to his father’s enrollment in 1933. “This playcenter is more than just a donation; it symbolizes our family’s commitment to this community and underscores the importance of early education,” Mr. Tappoo noted.
The Tappoo Group’s support for the school goes beyond this project; last year, they provided IT equipment worth $12,500 to help establish a computer lab. This year’s focus on enhancing early learning environments reinforces their ongoing dedication to the rural school. Janice Nath, the Education Officer for Nadroga Navosa, commended the Tappoo Group for their vision in cultivating lifelong learners. She highlighted that the playcenter will not only benefit the children of Kavanagasau but also align with the Ministry of Education’s objectives to promote innovation and quality education.
The Kavanagasau Kindergarten ECE playcenter is expected to transform the experiences of young students, fostering their social, emotional, and physical growth in a supportive environment. Supported by the Tappoo Group, the school management committee, and the Ministry of Education, this center aims to become a foundational element of community education. The event concluded with the unveiling of a plaque, representing the collective efforts in achieving this milestone and the shared commitment to providing children with a strong start in their education.
In a notable academic achievement, the Kavanagasau Sanatan Dharm Primary School has recorded a 100 percent pass rate in the Fiji Eighth Year Examination for the second consecutive year. Mr. Kumar attributed this success to the teamwork between teachers and parents. Lice Vuliasi, a diligent student from Kavanagasau, achieved the highest score. The school is committed to maintaining its performance, with Mr. Kumar indicating that they are addressing past weaknesses to ensure quality results in the upcoming exams.
