A new business initiative has been launched by the Veitamani Kava Dealers in Fiji, aimed at supporting local growers in the kava market. This initiative, as shared by Selemo Banicau, a 29-year-old from Vusasivo, Natewa, is still in its early stages, having been active for only a month, yet it is reportedly progressing well.

The primary objective of this business is to offer assistance to local farmers by tackling some of the challenges they face in cultivating and marketing kava, particularly the quicker collection of proceeds from their harvests. Operating under the name Veitamani Kava Dealers, the business serves several villages including Dawa, Vusasivo, and Nadavaci, enhancing their local economy.

Currently, kava is sold from $10 to $11 per kilogram, depending on quality and demand. The business intends to make the distribution process easier, especially for farmers who often struggle with selling fresh kava in local markets, particularly in Savusavu, where they can earn between $5,000 to $6,000 weekly from kava sales.

Despite facing difficulties such as adverse weather conditions that can complicate kava harvesting, the dealers are committed to improving their business operations. They aim to achieve a formal cooperative structure, enhancing stability and growth for local kava growers.

Selemo encourages his peers not to fear taking the initiative to create beneficial programs for their communities, expressing hope in divine guidance for their efforts.

This new venture not only aims to bolster the local economy but also fosters community resilience, showcasing the potential for positive change in the agricultural sector. By supporting local farmers and addressing their challenges, the Veitamani Kava Dealers are paving the way for stronger community bonds and economic growth.

In summary, the establishment of Veitamani Kava Dealers represents a significant step towards enhancing the livelihoods of local kava farmers in Fiji, overcoming challenges, and fostering cooperative growth. This initiative embodies a positive spirit of entrepreneurship and community resilience.
