Young entrepreneur Selemo Banicau, 29, from Vusasivo, Natewa, is making waves in the kava industry with his newly launched business, Veitamani Kava Dealers. Having commenced operations just seven months ago, Banicau and his team are already witnessing positive growth, benefiting both their livelihoods and those of local farmers.
The primary aim of Veitamani Kava Dealers is to support local farmers in overcoming various challenges they face, such as fluctuating market demands and timely cash requirements. Banicau emphasized that their business is rooted in the community, selling kava sourced from several local areas, including Dawa, Vusasivo, Nadavaci, and Naqaravatu.
Kava is priced between $10 and $11 per kilogram, which varies based on quality and availability. The team has established a reliable market presence, primarily in Savusavu, which further strengthens their sales efforts. Banicau noted that their capabilities to earn between $5,000 and $6,000 weekly from kava sales showcase the potential of the business.
Driven by their success, Banicau and his team have reinvested their profits into building homes, while also ensuring that they contribute to the Fiji Holding Unit Trust. These efforts are a testament to his commitment to the community and to creating sustainable business practices.
However, Banicau highlighted some challenges, particularly the adverse weather conditions that can affect kava production. To overcome such difficulties, he proposed establishing a cooperative to promote strategic development and strengthen the kava business.
In closing, Banicau encouraged his peers not to fear venturing into similar initiatives, insisting that with faith and diligent efforts, they can lead rewarding lives and positively impact their communities.
This inspiring story emphasizes the importance of local entrepreneurship and community resilience and serves as a beacon of hope for aspiring business owners in the region.
