Kadavu is buzzing with excitement as the highly anticipated Kadavu Sevens tournament begins today at the Namalata School grounds in Vunisea. Teams from across Fiji have arrived, and the island’s residents are ready for three days of exceptional rugby action.

Rusiate Wadali, vice-president of the Kadavu Rugby Union, expressed his enthusiasm, calling the event a historic moment for the island. “It is going to be a hype here in Namalata for this tournament, and I am really looking forward to it,” said Wadali.

The Kadavu Sevens features 24 men’s teams, four women’s teams, and 12 under-20 teams, promising a rugby festival that will highlight the best local talent and support youth development on the island. Wadali stressed the significance of sports in bringing about positive change in the lives of young people. “This competition will help use sports as a driving factor in their lives,” he added.

The event represents a significant stride for Kadavu as it aims to establish its place in Fiji’s expanding rugby landscape, with aspirations for the tournament to become a regular part of Fiji’s sporting calendar. The competition is set to conclude on Saturday.
