The Kadavu Sevens tournament has officially begun today at the Namalata School grounds in Vunisea, creating a buzz of excitement throughout the island. Teams from across Fiji have gathered, and locals are eager for three days of thrilling rugby action.
Rusiate Wadali, the vice-president of the Kadavu Rugby Union, expressed his enthusiasm for the event, declaring it a historic occasion for the island. “It is going to be a hype here in Namalata for this tournament, and I am really looking forward to it,” he stated.
The tournament features 24 men’s teams, four women’s teams, and 12 under-20 teams, promising a showcase of outstanding local talent and contributing to youth development on the island. Wadali highlighted the significance of sports as a means to foster positive change in the lives of young people, noting that “this competition will help use sports as a driving factor in their lives.”
This event is a pivotal moment for Kadavu as it aims to establish a prominent place in Fiji’s rugby landscape, with hopes that the tournament will become an annual fixture on Fiji’s sporting calendar. The competition is set to conclude on Saturday.
