Kadavu is filled with excitement as the highly awaited Kadavu Sevens tournament begins today at the Namalata School grounds in Vunisea. Teams from across Fiji have gathered, and the local community is prepared for three days of exceptional rugby action.
Rusiate Wadali, vice-president of the Kadavu Rugby Union, expressed his enthusiasm for the event, labeling it a significant occasion for the island. “This tournament is going to create a buzz in Namalata, and I am really looking forward to it,” Wadali commented.
The Kadavu Sevens features 24 men’s teams, four women’s teams, and 12 teams in the under-20 category, promising a celebration of rugby that will highlight local talent while also supporting youth development on the island. Wadali spoke on the critical role of sports in promoting positive changes in the lives of young people. “This competition will help use sports as a driving factor in their lives,” he noted.
This event is a crucial milestone for Kadavu, aiming to establish a stronger presence on Fiji’s expanding rugby landscape, with the aspiration that the tournament will become a staple in Fiji’s sporting calendar. The competition is set to conclude on Saturday.
