Kabara Makes History with Super 8 Title None

Kabara has secured a place in Cricket Fiji’s history by winning the first-ever Super 8 tournament title. The team achieved a stunning victory over Suva by two wickets in the final held at Albert Park in Suva yesterday.

Despite traveling from their village with a relatively young team, Kabara successfully chased Suva’s score of 224 runs. The game concluded with captain Aminiasi Tadu hitting a six, bringing their total to 226 runs.

This victory follows Kabara’s first-ever National Easter Cricket tournament title in April, making it two major wins in just four months. Adding to their triumph, three of their young players have been selected for the national men’s team, which will compete in the World Cup qualifier in Samoa.

“Preparation was tough. We started with 20 players, but due to strict camping rules set by our coaches, some teammates had to be dropped, leaving only 14 dedicated players to represent us,” captain Tadu explained.

The team spent two weeks in Suva before the tournament. “We want to thank our relatives and families in Suva for their continuous support. We know city life is challenging because everything costs money, but our families rose to the occasion to look after us during our two-week stay and throughout the past four days of matches.

“This win is for them,” Tadu added.

The three players selected for the national team will remain in Suva to prepare for the qualifiers, while the rest of the team will return home in a week’s time.
