Juveniles Among 43 Charged in Shocking Crime Wave

Three juveniles faced charges from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions in July for serious offenses, including aggravated burglary and theft. They were among 43 individuals charged last month with a total of 65 counts related to non-sexual violence crimes.

The charges encompass a range of offenses: one count of murder, one of manslaughter, seven for aggravated robbery, one for attempted robbery, eleven for aggravated burglary, three for burglary, and nineteen related to theft. Additional charges included receiving stolen property, arson, attempted arson, assault causing actual bodily harm, acts intended to cause grievous harm, criminal intimidation, grievous harm, common assault, and serious assault, among others.

Out of the 65 charges, there were 41 identifiable victims, with five incidents involving related parties. A notable case involves a 21-year-old man charged with the murder of his 59-year-old granduncle, allegedly killing him with a cane knife.

In a separate case, six men were previously charged with the manslaughter of a 27-year-old man, but charges against three were dropped as they are now cooperating as State witnesses. Another individual, a 24-year-old man, is charged with causing grievous harm to his 45-year-old father with a cane knife and faces additional counts for damaging property.

Further charges include a 21-year-old man accused of harming his 19-year-old wife and a 52-year-old woman charged with inflicting grievous harm on her 54-year-old husband. A 32-year-old man faces charges for threatening and physically assaulting a 43-year-old woman with a kitchen knife, while a 37-year-old man is charged with assaulting a 55-year-old man using a piece of wood.

In another case, a 24-year-old man was charged with arson for allegedly setting fire to a house owned by the Lami Town Council. Reports indicated that during the aggravated robbery and burglary incidents, various items, including cash, were stolen during break-ins and muggings.

Additionally, a 22-year-old man was charged with providing false information to a police officer, and both he and a 20-year-old man faced charges related to aggravated robbery and serious assault. Lastly, five cases were dropped after being discontinued due to a lack of sufficient and reliable evidence.
