A man was convicted by the High Court in Lautoka for raping a girl who is hearing and speech impaired in 2020. He faced four charges of rape for incidents that took place on December 15, 2020, in Nadi, and was found guilty on two counts.
Court records indicate the victim was waiting for transportation home when the man, in a vehicle, forcibly offered her a ride. He then made sexual advances while threatening her with a rod or stick. The incidents occurred in Wailoaloa and at a hotel in Votualevu. Justice Sunil Sharma stated that the court determined the accused was aware or believed the victim was not consenting, or did not care whether she was consenting at that moment.
