A man has been found guilty of raping a hearing and speech impaired girl in 2020 by the High Court in Lautoka. He faced four counts of rape related to incidents that took place on December 15, 2020, in Nadi and was convicted of two of those counts. Court documents revealed that the victim was waiting for a ride home when the man approached her in a vehicle and forcibly offered her a lift. He then made inappropriate advances while threatening her with a rod or stick. The attacks occurred in Wailoaloa and at a hotel in Votualevu. Justice Sunil Sharma stated that the court recognized the accused’s awareness or disregard for the victim’s lack of consent during the events.
