A man who sexually assaulted his daughter multiple times has been sentenced to 13 years in prison, with a requirement to serve 12 years before being eligible for parole. The ruling was made by Justice Pita Bulamainaivalu in the High Court in Suva last week.
The 44-year-old man faced two counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault against his daughter, which occurred between December 1, 2017, when she was 15, and December 31, 2020, when she turned 18. The offenses took place in their home while other family members were asleep.
The situation came to light after the girl’s mother questioned her about any inappropriate actions by her father. Following the initial revelations, the man expressed regret to the family and vowed to change his behavior. However, he repeated the offenses in 2020.
