A man charged with the rape of his eldest daughter in 2017 has been sentenced to 13 years, 11 months, and 10 days in prison by the High Court in Suva. The ruling was delivered by Justice Thushara Rajasinghe on Friday, following the man’s guilty pleas to three counts of sexual assault and two counts of rape as presented by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The court heard that the man committed the crimes on five separate occasions between 2017 and 2020. Despite repeatedly seeking forgiveness from both his wife and daughter, evidence presented in court indicated a lack of remorse, as he continued to perpetrate the offenses. The prosecution submitted a medical report confirming the charges against him.
The court noted that the man, who is married and has five children, will serve a non-parole period of 12 years as part of his sentence.
