The recent inauguration of the $29 million Ba Court complex marks a significant advancement for the judiciary, promoting the decentralization of services to local communities. The opening ceremony, officiated by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, underscores the government’s dedication to upholding the rule of law and ensuring everyone has access to justice.

Prime Minister Rabuka emphasized that every citizen has a legal right to seek justice and celebrated the new facility as a major step forward, equipped with modern amenities that will help manage the court’s workload. Notably, the establishment of a High Court in Ba will spare litigants from the long journey to Lautoka for their legal matters.

The new court’s jurisdiction extends to the towns of Ba, Tavua, and Rakiraki, including remote areas like Bukuya, Magodro, Nadarivatu, and parts of Ra Province. This expansion reflects the Coalition Government’s ongoing commitment to improving access to justice for all citizens.

Rabuka commended the Acting Chief Justice, Honorable Justice Salesi Temo, for his leadership in establishing this complex, reinforcing the judiciary’s role in delivering justice efficiently. He noted that a citizen’s right to seek justice holds little meaning unless it is actively exercised.

The event attracted senior judiciary members, cabinet ministers, and dignitaries, all expressing their support for the judiciary’s efforts in fulfilling its constitutional role. The Ba High Court will handle appeals from the Central Agricultural Tribunal as well as civil, criminal, and family court appeals, further enhancing the legal framework.

In his closing remarks, Prime Minister Rabuka advocated for unified action towards sustainable development, reaffirming a collective commitment to a prosperous and resilient future for Fiji and its citizens.

This development not only enhances the efficiency of the judicial process but also acts as a beacon of hope for the population, reflecting a brighter future with better access to justice and support from the government.
