Isireli Digitaki, a year nine student from Nabua Secondary School, expressed his gratitude for his participation in the Fiji Golf Open. He competed in the junior category at the Fiji Golf Club in Vatuwaqa last Saturday.
“This was my first time in the Fiji Golf Open, and I’m pleased with my scores,” Digitaki stated. However, he admitted that the pressure affected his performance, leading to several poor swings that disrupted his game.
Digitaki enjoyed the opportunity to play alongside his uncles and older siblings during the tournament, where they collectively won prizes, including electrical appliances. “We can’t afford some of these items, so winning them for free makes us very proud,” he remarked.
He also shared the challenge of managing his golf bag, which he found heavy and tiring. “I need to work on handling pressure to improve my performance in future tournaments,” he noted, expressing his gratitude to God for giving him the strength to participate over the three-day event.
Digitaki extended his appreciation to Complete Insurance Services for covering his golf membership expenses. “Without their sponsorship, I wouldn’t have been able to compete,” he said. He also thanked Arvin Lal and Taitusi Tuivuci for their support in helping him and other junior players participate in the tournament.
Furthermore, he recognized the Fiji Professional Golfers Association (PGA) for sponsoring entry fees for ten junior players, highlighting the financial challenges many juniors face in affording tournament participation. “Many of us can’t pay for entry fees,” he said.
Finally, Digitaki expressed his gratitude to his family and teachers for their unwavering support and guidance throughout the tournament.
