June 2, 2026 Fiji Forecast: Strong NE Winds to 55 km/h, Wind Warning Cancelled for Taveuni, Yasawa, Kadavu and Rakiraki coast

Vintage cars along scenic coastal road in Fiji with lush tropical landscape and palm trees.

A moist northeast wind flow is covering the country while a weak trough of low pressure lies just north of the group. The strong wind warning that had been in force for land areas of Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, the Yasawa group, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands and the coastal areas of southern Bua and Ra–Rakiraki is now cancelled.

Through tonight, expect cloudy periods with brief showers for Suva–Nausori, Naitasiri–Rewa–Tailevu–Ra and parts of eastern Macuata and Cakaudrove including Taveuni and nearby smaller islands. Elsewhere conditions will be mostly fine, although isolated afternoon or evening showers are likely, and isolated thunderstorms with heavy falls remain possible. Winds will be moderate to fresh from the northeast and seas are forecast to be moderate to rough.

The outlook for Wednesday is for continued cloudy periods with some showers across Navua–Suva–Nausori, Serua–Namosi–Naitasiri, Rewa–Tailevu–Ra, southern Bua, eastern Macuata and Cakaudrove (including Taveuni), plus the Lau and Lomaiviti groups and Kadavu. Other areas should remain largely fine apart from isolated afternoon or evening showers, with isolated thunderstorms possible over the main islands.

Several areas will see notably gusty northeast winds up to about 55 km/h. The Yasawa group, Nabouwalu, Taveuni, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu and parts of Rakiraki are reported with northeast winds around 46 km/h and gusts to 55 km/h. Local forecasts: Navua/Suva/Nausori 22–29°C with cloudy periods and brief showers; Nadi/Lautoka/Ba 22–31°C, mostly fine with isolated showers; Yasawa/Mamanuca 22–29°C, fine apart from isolated showers; Tavua/Rakiraki around 22–30°C with Rakiraki seeing cloudier spells and brief showers; Rotuma has a trough nearby with cloudy periods, brief showers and possible isolated thunderstorms, moderate to fresh easterlies and moderate to rough seas (23–30°C).

Mariners and small-craft operators should remain cautious as seas are moderate to rough in many areas despite the cancellation of the strong wind warning. Residents in parts of the main islands and northern and eastern provinces should be prepared for brief heavy downpours and the chance of isolated thunderstorms that could reduce visibility and produce localized heavy falls.
