June 1, 2026: Fiji under Strong Wind Warning as NE winds reach 55 km/h and rough seas affect coasts of Taveuni, Yasawa, Lau, Lomaiviti, Kadavu, Ra-Rakiraki and southern Bua

Fiji tropical road scene with lush greenery, palm trees, and mountain views.

A moist northeast wind flow prevails over Fiji with a Strong Wind Warning remaining in force for Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, the Yasawa Group, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, and the coastal areas of southern Bua and Ra–Rakiraki. A weak trough of low pressure lies just north of the group and will help maintain unsettled conditions in places.

For the islands named under the strong wind warning, northeast winds are expected at around 46 km/h with gusts up to 55 km/h, easing later today. Seas will be rough in these areas. Elsewhere across the group, expect moderate to fresh easterly winds, gusty at times, with rough seas also likely. Around Rotuma a trough in the vicinity brings moderate to fresh easterlies with moderate to rough seas.

Cloudy periods with brief showers are likely about Suva–Nausori, Naitasiri–Rewa–Tailevu–Ra, eastern Macuata and Cakaudrove provinces, including Taveuni and nearby smaller islands. Elsewhere conditions should be mostly fine apart from isolated afternoon or evening showers. Isolated afternoon or evening thunderstorms are possible over the main islands, with heavy falls possible in any thunderstorm activity.

The outlook for Wednesday remains similar: cloudy periods with some showers about Navua–Suva–Nausori, Serua–Namosi–Naitasiri, Rewa–Tailevu–Ra, southern Bua, eastern Macuata and Cakaudrove, including Taveuni and nearby islands, and in the Lau, Lomaiviti and Kadavu areas. Elsewhere the weather should be mainly fine apart from isolated afternoon or evening showers, with isolated thunderstorms possible.

Local centre notes: Navua / Suva / Nausori should see cloudy periods with brief showers and isolated thunderstorms possible; temperatures around a max of 29°C today, overnight lows near 22°C and similar highs through Wednesday. Nadi / Lautoka / Ba and the Coral Coast should be mostly fine with isolated afternoon or evening showers, highs near 31°C and 30°C respectively. Mariners and coastal residents should heed the strong wind warning and expect rough seas; small craft are advised to take care and coastal activities may be affected until winds ease.
