A moist easterly flow over Fiji, with a weak trough just to the north, is bringing unsettled conditions for parts of the group. A strong wind warning remains in force for land areas of Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, the Yasawa group, Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, and the coastal areas of southern Bua and Ra–Rakiraki. Rough seas are expected in these areas.
Easterly winds at about 46 km/h with gusts up to 55 km/h are forecast for the warned areas through tonight, with winds expected to ease and shift northeasterly from tomorrow. Elsewhere, moderate to fresh easterly winds will be present and gusty at times, with rough sea conditions expected across much of the coastal waters. Mariners and those planning coastal activities should take the strong winds and rough seas into account.
Rain is most likely as cloudy periods with some showers over Navua–Suva–Nausori, Serua–Namosi–Naitasiri–Rewa–Tailevu–Ra, Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Kadavu, and the Lau and Lomaiviti groups. Elsewhere conditions will generally be fine apart from isolated afternoon or evening showers. Isolated afternoon or evening thunderstorms are possible over the main islands.
Looking ahead to Tuesday, cloudy periods with brief showers are expected to continue over Navua–Suva–Nausori, Serua–Namosi–Naitasiri–Tailevu–Ra, eastern Macuata and Cakaudrove, southern Bua, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, as well as Kadavu, Lau and Lomaiviti groups. Most other districts should remain largely fine apart from isolated afternoon or evening showers. Temperatures in the main centres will be mild: Navua/Suva/Nausori around 22–29°C today, rising slightly to 23–29°C on Tuesday; Nadi/Lautoka/Ba around 21–31°C; Labasa, Savusavu and Taveuni in the low 20s to around 30°C.
Rotuma remains under the influence of a nearby trough, with cloudy periods and brief showers, moderate to fresh easterly winds and moderate to rough seas. Conditions there are expected to remain similar on Tuesday, with daytime temperatures near 23–30°C.
