A book titled “The Road to Parliament,” chronicling the personal and political experiences of former National Federation Party leader Harish Sharma, was launched at Jai Narayan College yesterday.
Harish Sharma, who served as Deputy Prime Minister and held the positions of Minister for Housing, Urban Development, and Information following the 1987 General Elections, was honored during the event.
The current NFP leader and Deputy Prime Minister, Professor Biman Prasad, praised Mr. Sharma, describing him as a figure of wisdom, authority, and goodwill. He referred to Sharma as a profound example of how one can achieve success in life through political ethics, transparency, and accountability.
Professor Prasad noted, “Reaching nearly 90 years of age and beginning to write memoirs is nothing short of a miracle.” He emphasized the importance of having a sharp memory to accurately recall significant events, which he considers remarkable.
“The Road to Parliament – A glimpse into the life of Hon Harish C Sharma – reflects the life of a person characterized by humility, kindness, and integrity,” he stated.
Professor Prasad shared insights into Mr. Sharma’s early life, highlighting the personal hardships he faced, such as losing his biological mother at the tender age of one. He recognized that such tragedies often devastate individuals, yet Mr. Sharma managed to overcome these difficulties through kindness.
He illustrated Mr. Sharma’s school experience, where he was treated poorly by a family, forced to live in servant conditions and perform menial tasks, including preparing food and working in the garden.
Professor Prasad remarked, “A person’s true value is assessed by their response to adversity. Mr. Sharma confronted and triumphed over these challenges, showcasing the essence of his character.”
He concluded by stating that “The Road to Parliament” is a significant achievement in Mr. Harish Sharma’s life.
