Jone Usamate Stands Firm: Support and Opposition Revealed

Former FijiFirst MP and now independent member of Parliament, Jone Usamate, has reaffirmed his support for the Prime Minister and the Coalition Government. During the budget debate in Parliament on Wednesday, he emphasized his commitment to opposing any measures that he believes do not meet the needs of the people.

“In my current capacity as an independent member of Parliament, I am prepared to support the Prime Minister, to support the Government on issues that are in the best interest of this country,” Mr. Usamate said. “However, I will fight against and oppose anything that I believe does not address our needs and goes against the best interests of the country.”

He acknowledged that while the budget has many positive aspects, it also contains several underlying weaknesses. “For this reason, I cannot fully support this budget,” he stated.

Mr. Usamate highlighted the collective expectation that the Government performs well. “Fiji needs the government to do well. I need the government to do well. Everybody on this side needs the government to do well. We all need it,” he remarked. “We want you to do well. You determine the way forward.”
