Jone Raibevu, known for his impressive 57-meter penalty kick in the Fiji Secondary School Rugby Eastern Zone final, is filled with excitement as he embarks on his journey with the Fijian Drua Academy. The 17-year-old Queen Victoria School student is among 28 players selected to undergo specialized, skills-based training from Drua coaches and high-performance staff over a three-year period.
Expressing his joy, Raibevu stated, “I never thought in my wildest dreams that I would come this far in my passion for rugby. This is my dream coming to reality.” He is determined to make the most of the opportunities provided by the Drua Academy, valuing the insights and advice he receives from the coaches and management.
His aspirations are high; he hopes to join the Fijian Drua team in the future and dreams of wearing the Flying Fijians jersey. Raibevu emphasizes the importance of hard work and commitment in achieving his goals, urging other young rugby players in secondary school competitions to set their own aspirations and strive towards them.
The initial selection of academy players comes from fifteen local secondary schools across the nation, marking a significant step in nurturing future rugby talent in Fiji.
