Community participation is essential in the fight against drug abuse in the country, according to Maciu Nalumisa, the Minister for Housing and Local Government. During his address at the opening night of the 2024 Nasinu Festival on Saturday, he acknowledged the significant challenges posed by illegal drugs, which have a profound impact on communities across Fiji.

Nalumisa emphasized the government’s commitment to a comprehensive and collaborative strategy aimed at tackling this growing issue. “Active involvement of the community is crucial to our success,” he stated.

The Minister highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts that engage law enforcement, the judiciary, health services, and community organizations in intensifying actions against drug trafficking and distribution networks. He urged community members to partner with the government to address this pressing matter by engaging in awareness campaigns, reporting suspicious activities, and supporting preventive education programs.

“You can make a significant difference,” Nalumisa declared. “Together, we can safeguard our neighborhoods, reduce drug-related problems, and create a safer, healthier environment for everyone, paving the way for a brighter future.”
