John Wesley College triumphed at the secondary schools touch rugby tournament, securing victories in both the under-16 and under-18 categories. This tournament was organized by Touch Federation Fiji as part of the Hibiscus Festival and took place over two days at Albert Park, commencing on Monday.
In the under-18 grade, John Wesley narrowly defeated Mahatma Gandhi Memorial College with a score of 5-3. Their under-16 team also achieved success, winning against Queen Victoria School with a close score of 3-2.
For the under-16 division, John Wesley advanced through the pool rounds by defeating Queen Victoria School 4-3, followed by a victory over Marist Brothers High School, also by 4-3. They moved on to the quarter-finals, where they secured a dominating 4-0 win against Lami High School. In the semi-finals, John Wesley continued their strong performance, defeating Suva Grammar School 6-2, and then overcame Marist with a score of 3-1 to reach the final. They faced Queen Victoria School again in the final, emerging victorious with a score of 3-1 after QVS reached the final by besting Lami High School 3-2.
In the under-18 grade, John Wesley started strong by defeating Queen Victoria School 3-1 but then faced a setback against Mahatma Gandhi Memorial College, losing 5-4. Despite this defeat, the team rallied to secure a 6-3 win over Suva Grammar School in their final pool match. In the semi-finals, they dominated Queen Victoria School with a score of 7-2, advancing to the final where they faced MGM once more. This time, John Wesley outperformed MGM, winning 5-3 to claim the under-18 title.
