Javish Lal, a promising sprinter from Labasa, is currently weighing his options for future athletic opportunities while prioritizing essential support. The Year Eight student from Tabia Primary School showcased his talent at the Labasa Primary Schools Athletics competition, where he secured a medal in the under-14 category, impressing many onlookers at Subrail Park.
Expressing satisfaction with his performance, Javish remarked, “I’m happy with my performance today, but I’m always looking to improve.” This achievement adds to his accolades, as he previously claimed a gold medal in the U13 category at the national primary school athletics meet in Lautoka, attributing his success to the encouragement from his coaches.
While schools from Suva have shown interest in his talent, Javish has made it clear that any potential offer must include a full scholarship and accommodation. He explained, “I come from a poor family, and it would be hard to live in Suva without proper support. If they offer me a scholarship and a place to stay, I’ll definitely consider it, but without that, I can’t go.”
His father, Gitendra Lal, shares similar concerns about the financial implications of relocating to Suva for education. He stated, “We don’t have the means to provide for him to live in Suva. It’s a big decision, and we want to make sure everything is in place first.” Gitendra hopes that a school would recognize Javish’s potential and offer the necessary support, as it aligns with his son’s passion for sports.
This story highlights the dedication and talent of young athletes like Javish Lal, as well as the challenges they face in pursuing their dreams. It’s a hopeful reminder that with the right support and opportunities, young talents can thrive and reach new heights in their athletic careers.
