Japan’s Landmark Scholarship Initiative Boosts Fijian Capacity Building

The Government of Japan is taking significant steps to support the Fijian government’s vision of capacity building by offering scholarships aimed at the public sector. Through the Human Resource Development Scholarship, also referred to as the Japan Development Scholarship (JDS) initiative, Japan is providing approximately FJ$2.6 million in funding.

This initiative marks the inaugural formalization of this project with Fiji, which seeks to promote human resource development through postgraduate studies in Japan. The formal assistance will be solidified by Japan’s Ambassador to Fiji, Mr. Rokuichiro Michii, who will sign an agreement with Mr. Parmesh Chand, the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Civil Service. The Exchange of Notes Signing ceremony will take place at the Tanoa International Hotel, Votualevu, Nadi, on October 7, 2024, at 9:00 AM.

Following this signing, a Grant Agreement will also be signed by Mr. Suekane Kentaro, Deputy Resident Representative of the JICA Fiji Office, in agreement with Mr. Parmesh Chand.
