Seventeen investors from Japan have gathered in Fiji to participate in the Pacific and Japan Regional Investment Seminar, hosted at the Pacific Island Forum Secretariat in Suva. The event aims to enhance collaboration and drive economic growth throughout the region.

Shaheen Ali, the Permanent Secretary for Trade, Cooperatives, MSMEs, and Communications, emphasized that this seminar is a significant step towards building opportunities and implementing tangible projects between Japan and Forum Island countries.

Japanese Ambassador to Fiji, Rokuichiro Michii, highlighted the shared vision between Japan and the Pacific Island Countries (PICs) for sustainable and resilient economic growth that contributes to the well-being of Pacific communities. This vision was reinforced by Pacific leaders at the recent PALM 10 meeting in Japan.

The seminar focuses on promoting regional cooperation, investment, trade, and tourism, as well as fostering local industries like agriculture, forestry, and fisheries. While Japanese companies possess advanced technologies with the potential for impactful business initiatives in the Pacific, creating connections with local governments and private sectors can be challenging.

Ambassador Michii noted that the seminar provides a valuable platform for establishing networks and offers a safe space for local private sector representatives to explore available Japanese technologies and their applicability to socio-economic challenges facing Pacific nations.

This event signals a promising opportunity for strengthened relationships and enhanced economic development in the region, paving the way for future collaborations that will benefit both Japan and the Pacific Islands.

Overall, this seminar is not just a gathering of investors; it represents hope for innovative solutions and sustainable growth in the Pacific, fostering a collaborative spirit that could lead to promising ventures for all involved.
