Japan Unlocks $2.6 Million for Fiji’s Future Leaders

The Japanese government is set to support the Fijian government’s capacity-building efforts by providing scholarships to the public sector through the Human Resource Development Scholarship initiative, also known as the Japan Development Scholarship (JDS), with an estimated funding of FJ$2.6 million.

This initiative represents the first formal partnership between Japan and Fiji, aimed at enhancing human resource development through postgraduate studies in Japan. The Ambassador of Japan to Fiji, Mr. Rokuichiro MICHII, will officially confirm Japan’s support and sign the agreement with Mr. Parmesh Chand, Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Civil Service, during an Exchange of Notes Signing ceremony scheduled for October 7, 2024, at the Tanoa International Hotel in Nadi.

Following the Exchange of Notes, a Grant Agreement will be signed by Mr. SUEKANE Kentaro, Deputy Resident Representative of the JICA Fiji Office, along with Mr. Parmesh Chand.
