Japan Invests in Fijian Education: A New Scholarship Initiative Unveiled!

The Government of Japan is set to officially provide funding to support the Fijian government’s capacity-building vision through scholarships for the public sector. This initiative, known as the Japan Development Scholarship (JDS), will contribute approximately FJ$2.6 million toward human resource development.

This is the first formalization of such a project between Japan and Fiji, with the objective of enhancing human resource capabilities through postgraduate studies in Japan. The Japanese Ambassador to Fiji, Mr. Rokuichiro Michii, will confirm Japan’s support to Fiji and will sign the agreement with Mr. Parmesh Chand, the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Civil Service. The Exchange of Notes Signing ceremony will take place on October 7, 2024, at 9:00 AM at the Board Room of Tanoa International Hotel in Votualevu, Nadi.

Following the Exchange of Notes, a Grant Agreement will also be signed by Mr. Suekane Kentaro, Deputy Resident Representative of the JICA Fiji Office, alongside Mr. Parmesh Chand.
