Japan Boosts Fiji’s Future with New Scholarship Initiative

The Government of Japan is officially providing funding to support the Fijian government’s capacity-building initiative through scholarships for the public sector. This investment, totaling approximately FJ$2.6 million, is part of the Human Resource Development Scholarship, also referred to as the Japan Development Scholarship (JDS) initiative.

This initiative represents the first formal collaboration between Japan and Fiji, focusing on enhancing human resource development by facilitating postgraduate studies in Japan. The Japanese Ambassador to Fiji, Mr. Rokuichiro Michii, will formalize this support by signing an agreement with Mr. Parmesh Chand, the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Civil Service. This event is scheduled for October 7, 2024, at 9:00 AM, and will take place at the Board Room of the Tanoa International Hotel in Votualevu, Nadi.

Subsequent to the Exchange of Notes signing, a Grant Agreement will be signed by Mr. Suekane Kentaro, Deputy Resident Representative of the JICA Fiji Office, and Mr. Parmesh Chand.
