Japan Boosts Fiji’s Future with New Scholarship Funding

The Government of Japan is officially committing approximately FJ$2.6 million under its Human Resource Development Scholarship program, also known as the Japan Development Scholarship (JDS). This initiative is designed to aid the Fijian government’s capacity-building efforts by providing scholarships to public sector employees.

This initiative marks the first formal collaboration between Japan and Fiji for postgraduate studies in Japan, aimed at enhancing human resource development. The Japanese Ambassador to Fiji, Mr. Rokuichiro Michii, will commemorate this partnership by signing an Exchange of Notes with Mr. Parmesh Chand, the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Civil Service, at a ceremony hosted by the Japanese government. The event is scheduled for 9:00 AM on October 7, 2024, at the Tanoa International Hotel in Votualevu, Nadi.

Following the Exchange of Notes, a Grant Agreement will also be signed by Mr. Suekane Kentaro, Deputy Resident Representative of the JICA Fiji Office, and Mr. Parmesh Chand.
