Japan and Fiji Join Forces to Bolster Fisheries Initiatives

In a significant move to enhance the Fisheries Development Assistance for Pacific Island Nations Seven Project, the Fisheries Ministry has executed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Overseas Fishery Cooperation Foundation of Japan.

This initiative aims to restore and maintain fisheries-related facilities while transferring vital technical skills from Japan to Fiji.

Shirasu Toshiro, President of the Overseas Fisheries Cooperation Foundation, highlighted that the project focuses on ensuring the reliable operation of fisheries facilities and bolstering the technical capabilities of local technicians. He emphasized that maintaining stable and continuous facility operations poses challenges that demand skilled engineering expertise.

Furthermore, the OFCF plans to conduct workshops aimed at improving the technical skills of facility maintenance staff, supporting the reliable functioning of ice-making facilities within Fiji.

Fisheries and Forestry Minister Alitia Bainivalu expressed her heartfelt appreciation to OFCF Japan for their ongoing assistance and expressed her hope for continued collaboration in the future.
